Surprise Cosplay: Holly Sanders

Decided back in February (Or was it the end of January? I don't know) to throw this costume together in time for Momocon as a surprise for *kampfkohlrabi. I ordered the wig first, but when it got here, I decided it was too thin and ordered a second one. I had a tough time deciding which of her adorable outfits to wear, but then I spotted this shirt for $5 and decided to go for the cheap option. XD

The piercings are all fake. The gauges are made from magnets and slices from a wooden dowel and hand painted. They were really comfortable to wear; I was sorta surprised I could tolerate them all day. The nose piercing was a horseshoe that I snipped in half and glued on (nooot fun taking it out, but really no other option), and the lip was a fake piercing designed for that purpose. It was the most uncomfortable, and I went to bed that night with a phantom lip ring feeling.

When the 2nd wig got here, I took it apart, and sewed the wefts onto the first wig to give it more hair and make it fuller. I dyed the whole thing using two different wig dying methods that turned out FABULOUSLY. I think Holly's hair was my main motivation for this. I was just like...I NEED TO DO THIS. IT'S PINK AND FABULOUS AND. YES. MUST BE DONE. lol The only downside is that the pink did come off on my hands when I brushed it the night before wearing it, and it rubbed off on the shirt.

The cane is just a large dowel with a bit of PVC pipe and a wooden doll's head, all hand painted, and the flower is just felt and a button.

The only thing I didn't do was contacts, mostly because I rather hate them and shopping for them is worse than shopping for wigs.

Wig was largely constructed while watching hours and hours of The Adventures of Tintin on Netflix. I'm sorta in love with the show now, and hope there are lots of Tintin costumes at D*con this year.
